Port Macquarie: Swimmers and paramedics try to revive man who died after drowning at Town Beach, NSW

Swimmers and paramedics tried in vain to save a man who drowned after in incident in the surf at Port Macquarie.

The man died after being found unconscious in the surf at Port Macquarie on the NSW mid north coast on Sunday afternoon

Emergency services were called to Town Beach shortly before 5pm, when the man was discovered unresponsive by swimmers, who brought him to shore and commenced CPR.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 74-year-old man at the scene before he was taken to hospital for further treatment.

Officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District have been told the man was unable to be revived.

Police will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.
