“It doesn’t look good as the car looks completely crushed,’ said a caller to Ben Fordham’s 2GB Breakfast Show.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from NSW Fire Rescue said the operation to try and remove the driver was delicate.

“Our Fire Rescue teams are using the hydraulic tools to try and pry the car apart and remove the patent,” Supt Dewberry told Fordham.

After the difficult hour-long operation to remove the twisted metal surrounding the occupant of the car, overhead helicopter shots showed emergency services members gently removing the trapped man before placing him on a spinal board on the side of the Spit Bridge.

The man is believed to be alive and is being assessed before being transported to hospital in what can only be described as miraculous survival story.

All lanes of the Spit Bridge are blocked and drivers are being told to use the Roseville Bridge which has also ground to a halt.

The Toll Rescue helicopter was placed on alert out of Bankstown Airport if needed for an emergency transport potentially to Royal North Shore Hospital.

To compound the issues for commuters the redirected traffic heading towards the Roseville Bridge was also stopped after reports of another crash near the Warringah Freeway.
