Tamworth: One man dead another under police guard after police standoff

A man has died and another has been taken into custody with stab wounds after terrifying standoff with police in Tamworth.
Emergency services were called to a home on Goonoo Goonoo Road at about 4.30pm on Saturday, with officers finding a 47-year-old man with critical head injuries and another man nearby allegedly armed with a knife.
A standoff ensued after the armed man locked himself in a bedroom before climbing onto the unit block roof. And it only ended when the man fell from the roof.

Officers were speaking with the 55-year-old man when he fell, police say.
He was treated by paramedics for stab wounds to his chest before being taken to Tamworth Base Hospital, where he remains under police guard in a serious but stable condition.
The injured 47-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene before being taken to Tamworth Base Hospital but he could not be saved.
It is understood the men were known to each other.
Detectives attached to Oxley Police District have established Strike Force Elsner to investigate the incident with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
