Three residents from the same unit building have been assaulted in separate incidents in Newcastle, with cash and personal items stolen.

The alleged home invasions occurred in three units at a block on Fowler St in Hamilton South between last Friday and Tuesday.

In the first incident, a 26-year-old woman was asleep when she was allegedly attacked by an unknown person sometime between 4.30am and 6am on Friday, suffering deep cuts to her face and hand.

Police believe the injuries were caused by a large bladed weapon.

The woman presented herself to John Hunter Hospital on Saturday, triggering a police investigation.

She has not provided a statement to police.

Later that day, emergency services were called to the same unit block about 8pm following reports of another home invasion.

A 44-year-old man was allegedly assaulted and robbed by three men armed with edged weapons.

He was treated at the scene for lacerations and bruising before being taken to John Hunter Hospital. Cash and personal items were stolen during the attack.

Three days later, on Monday, a third resident — a 32-year-old man — was allegedly attacked by an unknown offender inside the same building.

He suffered lacerations to his back and head, injuries police say were also consistent with a large bladed weapon, and was taken to John Hunter Hospital with serious injuries.

NSW Police are investigating whether the incidents are linked.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
