Heavily armed police officers have taken two men into custody after unearthing a range of homemade weapons known as “slam guns” that have allegedly been sold illegally in southern NSW.

Detectives charged the men after investigations led to their arrest for manufacturing and supplying the weapons, which have been nicknamed “slam guns”.

Images supplied by NSW Police show the do-it-yourself triple weapons, which are reportedly capable of firing 12-gauge shotgun shells, consisting of metal pipes held together with duct tape.

Multiple illegally manufactured guns have “been sold several times through the Illawarra”, according to police who arrested the 31-year-old and 52-year-old men in Albion Park Rail on Wednesday.

Both men were charged with a range of offences, including manufacturing and selling guns unlawfully and intentionally starting a fire.

They were both refused bail and have been remanded to appear in Bail Division Court on Thursday.
