Waterloo: 45-year-old man dies after NSW police, paramedics attempt sedation during welfare check

A critical investigation is underway following the death of a Sydney man after police and paramedics attempted to assist him in on Tuesday morning.
Shortly before 2am, emergency services were called to an apartment building on Pitt Street, Waterloo, after reports of a concern for welfare.
With the assistance of police officers, paramedics attempted to sedate the man when they arrived at the scene, which led to the 45-year-old becoming unconscious.

A crime scene has been established at the Waterloo unit complex and a critical incident investigation is underway to dive deeper into the circumstances surrounding the death.
According to the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission, a critical incident is declared when the action of a NSW police officer results in the death or serious injury of a person.
It remains unknown why the man was sedated.
