One man has died and another is in critical condition after another disastrous mining incident in Queensland on Wednesday.

A man in his 30s was killed and a man in his 20s is reportedly clinging to life after suffering injuries in a ‘machinery incident’ at a Queensland coal mine.

The older man died instantly from head injuries at the Oaky Creek coal mine southeast of Tieri in central Queensland at about 4.35pm.

The other man suffered life-threatening head, arm and leg injuries in the incident, according to the Queensland Ambulance Service.

He was flown to Rockhampton Hospital.

The Courier Mail is reporting the men may have been struck by a snapped cable.

The site is operated by Glencore and it is reported that the mining safety watchdog, Resources Safety and Health Queensland, is investigating.

It is the latest in a string of recent serious mining incidents in Queensland, with two men killed at QCoal’s Byerwen mine within weeks in August and a 27-year-old killed at BMA’s Saraji coal mine in Dysart in January.
