Pedestrian dies after being hit by car on rural road in Yungaburra, in Queensland’s Tablelands Region

A pedestrian who was critically injured when hit by a car south of Cairns has died, Queensland Police confirmed.

The 76-year-old Yungaburra man was hit by an MG HS while walking on Gillies Range Rd in Yungaburra soon after 1.10pm on Thursday.

Queensland Ambulance Service said paramedics treated the man for life-threatening head injuries, but he died at the scene.

Police are on scene and traffic diversions are in place.

“The Gillies Range Rd between Curtain Fig Tree Rd and Kehoe Pl is closed, motorists are urged to avoid the area,” police said.

The car involved was allegedly abandoned by the driver, a 36-year-old Yungaburra woman, police said.

She was located a short distance away.

Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information or dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
