Traffic diversions were in place for some time while police were at the scene.

The car involved in the crash was allegedly abandoned by the driver, police said.

A 36-year-old woman was located a short distance away.

The Yungaburra woman has now been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death.

She is scheduled to appear before Mareeba Magistrates Court on Friday.

Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information or dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
