“Upon arrival, police began negotiations with a male resident at the address,” Queensland Police said.

“An emergency situation was declared around 4.30am.”

Police declared an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) with boundaries encompassing Hood St, Esplanade, Marine Ct and Pulgul St.

“Members of the public are advised to avoid the area, and those within the exclusion zone are asked to remain indoors until further notice,” police said at the time.

The man was arrested shortly before 10am and the PSPA was revoked shortly after.

The exact reason for the emergency is unknown at this stage, however the man is believed to have allegedly been in possession of a knife, with a woman and children taken from the home early in the morning.

Traffic diversions are no longer in place.
