Southern Downs: Teenage driver killed as car bursts into flames after hitting tree

A young driver has been killed in a fiery crash after the car he was driving hit a tree in rural Queensland.

The forensic crash unit is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash in the Southern Downs on Monday afternoon.

Just after 2pm, a yellow Ford Falcon was travelling on Washpool Road in Leslie Dam when it left the road, crashed into a tree, and caught on fire.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 17-year-old Warwick boy, died at the scene.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing and police are appealing to any witnesses or anyone with dashcam vision at the time of the incident to come forward.
