His condition was reported as stable.

A rescue helicopter took the man to Mackay Hospital.

Resources Safety and Health Queensland is aware of the incident and has sent an inspector to the scene to investigate.

The safety watchdog has also directed mine operators to isolate the incident site.

Mining company Peabody Energy said the man was changing a tyre when he was injured.

“We have notified Resources Safety and Health Queensland and will be assisting with their investigation,” a spokesperson for the company said.
