A little girl is fighting for life after nearly drowning at a home on the Gold Coast.

The three-year-old girl was at a home on Nebraska Ct in Oxenford when she was found lifeless at the bottom of a pool about 2.30am on Sunday.

Queensland Police said she had been at a party with other children and adults, when a pool gate had been left ajar to allow children to run from the pool back to the party.

“While other parents and children were distracted at a jumping castle, the three-year-old has gone to the pool,” Acting Superintendent Scott Knowles said.

Knowles said CCTV footage at the home showed the little girl reaching for an inflatable mattress before falling forward and “toppling” into the pool.

It took several minutes before the homeowner noticed the girl at the bottom of the pool, pulling her out “not breathing” before performing CPR.

“She is currently in a coma in hospital,” Knowles said

“We don’t know the extent of the injuries at this point in time.”

The near drowning is being investigated by the Child Protection Investigation Unit and prompted a warning from police for parents to look out for children near pools as the weather begins to warm.

“This is a timely message, especially with the warmer weather coming on, make sure the gates are closed, please watch your kids — this kind of tragedy (could) be a lot worse.”
