A teenager has been rushed to hospital with serious stab wounds after he was injured during a knife fight in a shopping centre in Adelaide’s north.

Witnesses say ugly scenes erupted when rival school students came to blows in a food court at Elizabeth Shopping Centre on Elizabeth Way just after 2.30pm on Wednesday.

Mobile phone footage of the incident shows several teenagers fighting, with three of them carrying knives.

The 18-year-old victim was taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital with a stab injury to his torso.

He was conscious and talking to paramedics before undergoing surgery and remains in a serious condition.

A group of family and friends are supporting him in hospital, with his brother Moey telling 7NEWS the teen is a “beautiful kid” with “amazing grades”.

“That’s why I’m so mad because he’s such a beautiful kid, he’s never done anything like this or nothing like this has happened,” he said.

Detectives questioned two of his friends at the scene.

Three teenage boys have been arrested — a 17-year-old from Salisbury East, a 16-year-old from Brahma Lodge and a 14-year-old from Elizabeth Vale. Police expect to charge them later on Wednesday.

Crime scene investigators pulled a large kitchen knife covered in blood from a recycling bin behind the centre and it has been taken for forensic testing.

The section of the centre where the incident occurred has reopened to the public but some shops closed early, with staff traumatised by what they saw.
