An 18-month-old girl has died after being struck by a ute in the driveway of her family home in Adelaide’s inner south.

Police and paramedics were called to the home in Netherby, near Unley, just after 8am on Friday.

The child was rushed to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital with critical injuries but died soon after.

The ute driver has been taken to hospital for mandatory blood tests.

Loved ones, including the child’s grandparents, have rallied together at the home.

Neighbours, who have expressed their sympathies for the family, said the young family moved into their “dream home” about three years ago.

“To have something like this in your backyard, it just absolutely shocks you to the core … you live with it for the rest of your life,” neighbour Michael Angelakis told 7NEWS.

“I just can’t imagine, it’s a total tragedy.”
