Wheelchair passenger dies in crash after van ploughs into tree in Port Elliott, South Australia

Terrible circumstances have played out after a wheelchair passenger died in a horror crash when a van collided with a tree in South Australia.

Police were called to the intersection of Ocean Road and Port Elliot Road just after 4.30pm on Sunday after the Toyota van hit the tree.

Sadly, a 59-year-old woman from Davoren Park who was a wheelchair passenger in the van died in the crash.

The driver, a 20-year-old woman from Northfield and front passenger a 30-year-old woman from Croydon Park, were both taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The southern end of Ocean Road was closed as police and Major Crash Investigators examined the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The woman’s death is the 60th life lost on SA roads this year.
