An elderly man and woman, both in their 80s, have died in a four-vehicle crash on the Bowen Bridge near Ridson, north of Hobart, on Friday afternoon.

The pair were travelling east in a silver Holden Barina when it’s believed they were hit by a truck driving behind them about 3.40pm, Tasmania Police said.

The impact caused the Barina to collide with two other vehicles, a red Holden Commodore and a blue Honda HRV, which were also heading east.

“The circumstances leading up to the crash are being investigated by police and a report will be prepared for the Coroner,” Tasmania Police said.

“Our thoughts are with everyone involved.”

Investigations are ongoing, and police urge anyone with relevant information or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers.
