A man who in died in a jetski tragedy has been remembered as a “beacon of light to all who knew him”.

Christopher Onuorah was found unresponsive in the waters off Rye on the Mornington Peninsula just before 5.30pm on January 3.

He was brought to shore and given CPR but could not be revived.

His friends and family are now raising funds to help get his body repatriated to his home in Nigeria and to support his family.

“Christopher was a beacon of light to all who knew him—kind-hearted, full of life, and deeply loved by his family and friends. His untimely passing has left a void in the lives of those who cherished him,” they wrote in a GoFundMe post.

“Christopher’s life, though tragically cut short, will always be remembered for the love, kindness, and positivity he brought to those around him. Let us honor his memory by showing his family the same love and support he gave to so many.

“Thank you for your kindness and compassion during this difficult time. Together, we can make a difference for Christopher’s family.”

Mr Onuorah’s death is among a spate of drownings around Australia over the Christmas holiday period.

On Monday, two people died after their boat capsized off the coast of South Australia.

The alarm was raised about 11.30am with reports three people were unresponsive on the shore near Point Connor just south of Beachport, near the Victorian border.

Two men, aged 82 and 69, were pronounced deceased at the scene and a woman, 59, was rushed to hospital.

A 40-year-old Perth woman died on Saturday after being swept from rocks in Esperance, Western Australia.

And, on Friday, a seven-year-old boy died after he was found in a river about three hours after he was reported missing.

His family had been camping at a site off Angusvale Track in Cobbannah, East Gippsland when tragedy struck.
