CityLink Monash: Car bursts into flames on major Melbourne motorway during morning peak

Two lanes have been closed as a result of the fire.

The morning peak hour commute on a major motorway in Melbourne has been thrown into chaos after a car burst into flames.

The car fire has closed two citybound lanes on the CityLink/Monash Fwy just prior to the Church St Bridge.

Emergency services have responded and are battling the blaze which is sending a large plume of smoke into the air.

Two lanes remain open with a speed limit of 40km/h with traffic banked up to the Warrigal Rd exit.

“Please obey the overhead signals, merge safely and leave plenty of room for emergency services on the way,” VicTraffic said.
