Coburg: Woman charged over fatal hit-and-run that killed cyclist, SUV involved still at large

A woman has been charged after a cyclist was killed in an alleged hit-and-run in Melbourne’s north last month.
The 40-year-old victim, a Princes Hill man, was standing next to his bike in the bike lane on Moreland Road, Coburg, when he was struck about 6.20pm on August 24.
He suffered a broken neck and severe internal injuries and was rushed to the hospital, but died the following day.

Detectives from the major collision investigation unit arrested a 40-year-old woman at a Lower Templestowe property on Monday afternoon.

She was charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident, failing to render assistance, failing to report a collision to police, and driving while suspended.
The woman, who is from Clifton Hill, is due to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday morning.
As part of the investigation, police also arrested a 61-year-old Aberfeldie man at an Abbotsford address. He was interviewed and released pending further enquiries.
Detectives are still searching for the vehicle they believe was involved in the incident – a white 2016 Audi Q5 SUV, which is expected to have visible damage to the front and passenger side.
“The investigation remains ongoing,” police said in a statement, urging anyone with dashcam footage or information about the vehicle to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
