Man charged after woman allegedly pushed onto train tracks by stranger at Richmond station, Melbourne

A man has been charged with assault after allegedly pushing a stranger onto train tracks in Melbourne.

A 64-year-old woman was helped off the tracks and back onto the platform by bystanders at Richmond train station just before 4pm on Wednesday.

She was treated for non-life-threatening injuries by paramedics called to the incident before being taken to Alfred Hospital.

Police arrested a 54-year-old Werribee man in Southbank on Thursday.

He has been charged with conduct endangering life, conduct endangering serious injury, reckless conduct causing injury and unlawful assault of a female.

The accused was also charged with several unrelated offences including burglary, theft, aggravated burglary, trespass, unlawful assault and threats to kill.

He has been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on July 12.

Police previously said they did not believe the man who allegedly pushed the woman was known to her.
