Mihir Desai identified as man allegedly fatally stabbed by housemate in Burwood home
A man who was fatally stabbed, allegedly by his housemate in Melbourne’s east has been identified as an Indian national who had a “kind and generous soul”.
Mihir Desai, 39, was killed in his Burwood home on Winton St about 11pm on Tuesday.

Desai was a rideshare driver who came to Melbourne from India seven years ago.
Friends told 7NEWS he was a nice guy who always wanted to have fun.
“I (can’t) believe how it’s possible, two or three nights before he was with us,” Ayaz Khan said.
“He’s a very good guy, very nice, kind.”

In a fundraiser set up to help send his body back home, Desai has been remembered as a “kind and generous soul who touched many lives”.
“We are now trying to fulfil the family’s wish to bring Mihir back to India, so (he) may be laid to rest with dignity among (his) loved ones,” Jay Dhimmar said.
It’s believed Desai was stabbed during a fight with his roommate.
The 42-year-old suspect remained at the property after the incident, waiting to be arrested.
Rajesh Gade was charged with murder on Wednesday and faced the Melbourne Magistrates Court later that night.
He did not apply for bail and will face court again on June 30.


Neighbours told 7NEWS the residents living at the home, which had eight bedrooms, were transient but friendly.
It’s unclear exactly how many people were residing in the sharehouse.
The incident is one of three where a man was killed in Victoria this week.
On Monday, 86-year-old Paul Waylen was found dead by gardeners at his home in Cowes on Phillip Island.
His son remains under police guard in hospital after he was found with self-inflicted wounds 2km away.
That same day, a man was found with critical stab wounds slumped over on a street in Moe, Gippsland.
He died at the scene.
