Person dies in car and truck crash on Old Western Hwy in Harkness, Melbourne

A person has been killed in a shocking truck and car collision on a major highway in Melbourne’s northwest.

The two vehicles crashed on the Old Western Hwy in Harkness at 7.45pm on Sunday.

The driver and only occupant of the car, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

The truck driver was not injured in the crash and stopped at the scene to assist police.

It is not yet clear how the collision happened and the investigation is ongoing.

Motorists have been asked to avoid the area as the roads will be closed for several hours.
