A woman has died in Western Australia from injuries sustained in an alleged assault at a home.

The woman, aged in her 40s, was found by police with serious injuries at the home on Melbourne St in Waggrakine — near Geraldton — about 6.30pm on Friday, after a serious assault was reported to emergency services.

Paramedics treated the woman, but she died “as a result of injuries sustained”, WA Police said.

A 21-year-old was present at the home and taken into police custody.

The man is known to the woman, and police believe he is involved in the incident.

He is currently assisting police with their investigation.
