A Perth woman will front court accused of trying to shove a bag of meth into her dog’s rear end after being pulled over by police.

And in another disturbing claim, the animal — a miniature dachshund — was also found to have amphetamine and meth in his system.

A 43-year-old from Girrawheen has been charged with animal cruelty and will appear in court next month.

She first came to the attention of police in February when they said she was seen driving rapidly out of a shopping centre carpark.

Police pulled her over and told the woman they were going to conduct a search.

It is alleged she was then seen removing a small package concealed in her bra and attempting to insert it into the dog’s anus.

“The package, allegedly containing approximately 2g of meth, was recovered,” an RSPCA spokesperson said.

A cruelty report was made to the animal welfare group and the dog was seized.

The dog tested positive to amphetamine and “below reportable levels” of meth during a veterinary examination, RSPCA said.

The accused was charged with animal cruelty, having allegedly “attempted to place a package containing drugs into the dog’s anus, knowing his anal area was already infected and painful”.

“RSPCA WA will also allege the accused should have known that, if she had succeeded in inserting the package into her dog’s anus, it was likely the meth would be absorbed into the dog’s body,” the spokesperson said.

The accused will appear in Joondalup Magistrates Court on August 2.

The maximum penalty is a $50,000 fine and five years in prison.
