Disclosure Day: Steven Spielberg’s mysterious alien movie finally revealed

That mysterious project Steven Spielberg has been teasing for almost two years finally has a name – and a teaser trailer.
The film is called Disclosure Day and it concerns the discovery that the inhabitants of Earth are not alone in the universe.
The video features clips of animals staring at humans in unison, Emily Blunt’s character speaking, almost against her will, in clicky sounds that we have for decades, thanks to cinema, associated with alien language, Colin Firth’s eye changing colours and Josh O’Connor in a crop circle.

O’Connor’s character is also the one who says, “People have the right to know the truth, it belongs to seven billion people”. When he’s asked what he’s going to do, he replied, “full disclosure, to the whole world, all at once”.
Hence the name of the movie.
The ensemble cast also includes Colman Domingo and Elizabeth Marvel, and the screenplay was written by David Koepp who had previously collaborated with Spielberg on Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Disclosure Day is a return to sci-fi for Spielberg who has made three films with alien subject matters with E.T., Close Encounters of the Third Kind and War of the Worlds.
This film was announced in early 2024 but little has been known about it until today, other than that it was in the sci-fi genre, with teases that there would be aliens. Last week, billboards popped up in New York City’s Times Square, saying only that everything would “be disclosed” along with Spielberg’s name.

Spielberg has said before that he believes in extra-terrestrial life. In a 2023 interview with Stephen Colbert, he said he has never seen a UFO or anything he can’t explain but he didn’t think we were alone in the universe.
“I think it’s mathematically impossible that we are the only intelligent species in the cosmos. I think that’s totally impossible,” he said.
“At the same time, it also seems impossible that someone would visit us from 400 million lightyears from here – except, in the movies, of course – unless it figures out some way of jumping the shark, so to speak, and getting here through wormholes.”
Disclosure Day is in cinemas on June 11, 2026
