You could be an acclaimed actor, respected by your colleagues, beloved by fans and have an Oscar to your name, but that still doesn’t save you from being nominated for a Razzie.
Sandra Bullock turned up to the 2010 ceremony to accept in person her Razzie for All About Steve and the next night, she won an Oscar for The Blind Side.
Will any of the Oscar winners and Razzie nominees do the same come March? You’ll have to ask Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga, Francis Ford Coppola, Cate Blanchett, Ariana DeBose and Jon Voight, who are all up for Razzies this year.

It is traditionally announced the day before the Oscars and is a fun, satirical reprieve during what can be a self-serious awards season.
Five movies are tied in the lead with six nominations each – Joker: Folie a Deux, Borderlands, Madame Web, Reagan and Megalopolis. Jerry Seinfeld’s Pop-Tarts movie Unfrosted (technically a streaming release) has four nods, Kraven the Hunter has three while The Crow and Argylle have two.
Jack Black is a double individual nominee for two movies, being dinged for his performances in Borderlands and Dear Santa while DeBose was singled out for Argylle and Kraven the Hunter. Voight was called out for his role in four different movies - Megalopolis, Reagan, Shadow Land and Strangers.
The leading contenders make up the worst picture category.
It’s particularly stinging for Joker: Folie a Deux whose predecessor, Joker, was nominated for 11 Oscars in 2020.
The comic book villain story was one of the most disastrous films of 2024. It was widely panned by both critics and fans and only just clawed back its massive production budget of $US200 million, not accounting for its promotional bill or the cut cinemas take from each ticket.
The movie was nominated for worst picture, worst actor for Phoenix, worst actress for Lady Gaga, worst director for Todd Phillips, worst screen combo for Phoenix & Gaga, worst screenplay and worst prequel, remake, rip-off or sequel.
Reagan, a hagiographic biography of the 40th president of the United States, was not released in Australia either in cinemas or through digital platforms.
Made by producers with ties to America’s conservative movement, the movie has the distinction of having one of the widest gaps between the critics score and the audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes (18 per cent to 98 per cent).
It stars Donald Trump supporters Dennis Quaid and Jon Voight, who are both nominated for a Razzie.
Eli Roth’s adaptation of video game Borderlands also went down like a lead balloon with nods in worst picture, actress for Blanchett, supporting actor for Black and Kevin Hart, director for Roth and in screen combo.
Borderlands, the story of a group of outsiders on a mission to locate a missing girl, was little promoted in Australia and grossed just over a million dollars at the box office.
Megalopolis is a more divisive pick with a wide range of reviews declaring it both a masterpiece and unwatchable.
Coppola’s passion project for decades, the filmmaker self-funded its $US150 million budget from a partial sale of his winery. It’s a grand fable about the decline of a city, drawing a parallel between the excesses and corruption of ancient Rome to today.
Despite its ensemble cast, only one individual performer was Razzie nominated, Shia LaBeouf, although the whole cast came up in the screen combo category.
Last year, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey won the Razzie for worst picture.
The Razzies are voted on by about 1200 people around the world. Anyone can join the throng by paying for a membership, starting at $US40 a year.
This year’s Oscar nominations will be announced on Friday morning AEDT with leading contenders The Brutalist, Conclave, Emilia Perez, Wicked, Anora and A Complete Unknown expected to have a strong showing.
