Ozempic’s biggest night
Nikki Glaser, the first woman to ever host the Golden Globes solo, knows what the vibe is about - a little bit cheeky, a little bit irreverent.
She started with welcoming everyone to Ozempic’s biggest night, and then quickly referenced the Wicked press tour, asking Ariana Grande to hold her finger.
She gave the celebrities flack for their lack of influence in the recent US election.
“You are also famous and talented and so powerful. You could do anything except tell the country to vote for. It is OK, you will get them next time. If there is one. I am scared. Ariana, hold my finger. Thank you.”
Speaking of politics, Glaser couldn’t resist a zinger aimed at Robert Kennedy Jr.
“Wicked, Queer, Nightbitch, these are not just words Ben Affleck yells after he orgasms. These are the incredible movies nominated tonight. The Bear, The Penguin, Baby Reindeer, are not just things found in RFK’s freezers. These are TV shows nominated tonight.”
Glaser couldn’t help but throw some shade at one of the biggest cinematic disasters of 2024, Joker: Folie a Deux.
“Some people complained Wicked was ruined by people singing. And at Joker, some people say the movie was ruined by the images on the screen and the sounds that accompany them. I’m sorry, Joker 2, where is their table?
“Oh right, they are not here.”
And you can’t finish a monologue without pointing out some gender truths.
“I predict five years from now when you watch old clips of the show on YouTube, you will see someone in one of the crowd shots and think ‘My God, that was before they caught that guy’.
“We could be making history. It’s a night and we don’t even know with whom. He knows, or she. It could be a woman, I think 100 per cent of the time it is a man but it could be a woman. It won’t be, it never is. Kind of like Best Director.”
