Golden Globes 2026 live updates: Red carpet fashion, Nikki Glaser‘s opening monologue, Aussie Rose Byrne wins
LIVE UPDATES: The 83rd Golden Globes are underway, with host Nikki Glaser quickly reminding Hollywood’s biggest names that no one is safe, with an Aussie taking home a major award

One Battle After Another emerged as the clear winner of the Golden Globes, picking up a raft of major awards including the gongs for best comedy film, best director and best screenplay fpr Paul Thomas Anderson and best supporting actress for Teyana Taylor.
The Anderson-made, Leonardo DiCaprio-starring film is surely the one now to beat at the Oscars.
Hamnet was also a prominent victor, picking up a far-from-assured victory in the best drama race, besting Sinners and The Secret Agent, while lead star Jessie Buckley won for best actress in a drama film.
But it wasn’t a clean sweep for either film and the high-profile acting awards were shared around between various movies, which made for a more interesting ceremony.
Australian Rose Byrne won the comedy actress Globe, for her darkly comic performance in the stressful film If I Had Legs I’d Kick You while Timothee Chalamet cemented his status as the one to beat at the Oscars with a win for Marty Supreme, also in the comedy film category.
On the drama side, Brazilian actor Wagner Moura won for The Secret Agent while his film also claimed the gong for non-English language film.
Stellan Skarsgard won in the best supporting actor category for Norwegian drama Sentimental Value.
Cultural sensation KPop Demon Hunter took home animated feature and original song for the ditty that has been stuck in everyone’s heads for months, Golden.
Another favourite going in, Sinners, had to make do with wins in original score and the cinematic and box office achievement categories.
On the TV side, British miniseries Adolescence continued to sweep the circuit, claiming best limited series, while The Pitt and its lead star Noah Wyle won in drama and The Studio and its star and co-creator Seth Rogen nabbed the comedy awards.

Your guide to the 2026 Hollywood awards season movies
It’s Moira Rose’s favourite season of the year – awards season.
Hollywood loves to give itself gongs, but given the challenged state of moviegoing, you can’t blame it.
It’s essentially a marketing exercise, a declaration to audiences that, at least for a few months every year, culminating in the Oscars in mid-March, it was still an industry that valued original ideas and quality filmmaking.
Awards season is a chance to draw attention to movies that are mostly not the kind of franchise-driven blockbusters that would get the lion’s share of advertising campaigns and marketing spend the rest of the year.
So, here’s your guide to all the films that are popping this awards season.
