Exciting news for Oasis fans with the band set to announce a return 15 years after splitting up.

Oasis is definitely getting back together – no maybes about it. Some might say they’ve acquiesced to fans’ long-frothing demand to see them back on stage.

Liam and Noel Gallagher announced a series of UK concerts next year, the first time the brothers have performed together since Noel sensationally quit the band right before a Paris concert in 2009.

The tour will kick off in Cardiff on July 4, followed by Heaton Park in Manchester, Wembley in London, Murrayfield in Edinburgh and Croke Park in Dublin. All up, they’ve announced 14 shows so far.

Tickets go on sale on August 31 at 8am UK time.

There had been rumours of a Glastonbury headline performance but nothing has been confirmed so far.

The band’s official YouTube page also posted a 90-second video, a montage of video of the brothers over the years. In one bit of voiceover, Noel can be heard saying ”When we both come together, we have greatness”.

While the dates are UK and Ireland-only so far, the blurb beneath the YouTube video says, “Oasis today ended years of feverish speculation with the confirmation of a long-awaited run of UK and Ireland shows forming the domestic leg of their Oasis Live 25 tour”.

The specificity of it being the “domestic leg” could read as there being international dates to follow, likely starting with Europe and then North America.

Noel and Liam have both toured Australia with their solo acts in recent years.

But given the tempestuous nature of their relationship over the decades — and a history of walking out on performances including the Paris concert in 2009 which never happened because Noel quit right beforehand following a backstage brawl — fans may not want to wait to see if they ever make it down under.

After all, we are half the world away from the UK.

The Gallaghers set the internet alight over the weekend when, following Liam’s performance at the Reading festival, an image of a date and a time (August 27, 2024 at 8am UK time) flashed up on screen in the signature Oasis font and style.

Liam then posted the same video to his social media accounts. But the more telling move was that Noel did as well, as did the official Oasis profile – all within five minutes of each other. That level of co-ordination has been previously unseen in the Gallaghers’ long-running conflict.

There were signs in recent days of a thawing between the Gallaghers. Liam had dedicated a song to Noel during a concert performance while Noel praised Liam’s singing in an interview for the 30th anniversary of the release of its Definitely Maybe album.

The brothers have been at odds with each other since the formation of Oasis. Noel walked out of the band’s American tour in 1994 after a show at LA’s famed Whisky A Go Go club. He fled to San Francisco after what he claimed was a meth-fuelled fight.

There was also a rancorous brawl aboard a ferry to Amsterdam in 1995, which was detailed in the documentary Supersonic. Noel had objected to Liam’s cigarettes and alcohol lifestyle while Liam sledged Noel for going to bed and reading a book.

Noel officially quit in 2009, and said in a statement at the time, “It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer”.

Over the years, the brothers sniped at each other publicly, in media interviews and across social media platforms, and the quarrelling even went multi-generational.

In 2019, Noel posted a screenshot he claimed was a message Liam sent to his daughter Anais, which said, “Tell your step Mam to be very careful”, referring to MacDonald who had described Liam’s Glastonbury set that year as a “fat twat doing a tribute act”.

Noel was furious and publicly called out Liam and added, “So, you’re sending threatening messages via my teenage daughter, are you now? You were always good at intimidating women though, eh?”

Liam played their 1995 hit Wonderwall at the 2012 London Olympics without Noel who said he played “cat-and-mouse” with the event organisers and not giving permission for the song to be performed until the last moment.

Some fans have pointed to Noel’s 2023 divorce from Sara MacDonald clearing the way for the brothers to sort out the bad blood between them.

If the Gallaghers manage to keep all 14 dates announced so far or even add more, long-time fans will be rapturous.

If their conflict gets the better of them, at least they’ll always be rock and roll stars whose music will live forever.
