Australian singer Darren Hayes has revealed he’s had to fork out $100,000 on medical bills, after suffering a blackout fall which left him with a broken jaw.

The Savage Garden frontman, 52, revealed in April he suffered three fainting spells, where he lost consciousness, causing him to fall and break his jawbone in half.

As part of the traumatic episode, he shattered nine teeth.

Hayes let fans know he was on the mend on Wednesday but said it came at a price. He shared a bill which showed he owed $8100 after insurance, after a visit to the surgeon.

“So, this is one of the many bills I’ve received after breaking my jaw (for newbies, don’t worry it was in March, I’ve recovered). This is the bill after insurances,” Hayes wrote.

“I have good insurance. This particular charge is for the one surgeon who wasn’t part of the hospital so they had their own 15 grand fee. I could add it all up but with my dental repairs etc it’s been about 100 grand.

“America is broken.”

The Aussie star received a number of caring messages from friends and fellow Aussies who were stunned at the cost of medical services in the US.

“Wow. Just wow. So fortunate I live in Australia,” one follower wrote.

“I broke my back. I had a team of people work on me. My bill was zero Australian dollars. America, you are broken,” another added.

“Yep. I had to file for bankruptcy after my cancer treatment 11 years ago. It’s disgusting.”

In April, Hayes shared details of the accident.

“On March 17, two months to the day after my mother passed away, I had a terrible accident,” Hayes began.

“I’ve been trying to keep it private but my lengthy recovery period means it’s easier to admit the truth. I lost consciousness — I fainted shortly after getting out of bed and collapsed three times, losing consciousness each time.

“The blunt force trauma was so severe it snapped my left jawbone in half. I woke up in a pool of blood, terrible pain in the left side of my head and with nine teeth shattered.

“I’m so lucky I was found and taken to the amazing team at the emergency room of St John’s Providence in Santa Monica, where they acted quickly.

“I could have died if I landed in a different position.”

Hayes had his jaw wired shit, allowing his jawbone to heal.

He added he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Hayes finished by striking a positive note about his health journey.

“I’m so grateful to my loved ones for coming to my rescue and to the doctors and nurses that have treated me with such care,” he wrote.

“After surviving a brutal divorce, losing my mother, finding out my father had died and then this, I have moments of deep sadness. But I am a survivor and I’ll come back strong.”

Hayes were previously married to British screenwriter, Richard Cullen, from 2006 to 2024.

He rose to fame in Aussie band Savage Garden, with a string of huge hits including Truly, Madly, Deeply, from 1993 to 2001.
