A month after the finale of Strange Things left fans reeling, Netflix has dropped the first trailer for its animated spin-off series Tales From ‘85.

Hitting screens April 23, this series fills the gap between seasons 2 and 3 with a winter 1985 Hawkins adventure starring Eleven, Mike, Max, Lucas, Dustin, and Will.

Fully animated and featuring all-new voice actors, it promises 80s nostalgia, but a surprise new character has already sparked heated debate online.

Stranger things new character Nikki Baxter

The trailer’s big reveal is Nikki Baxter, a tall, tough “tinker” sporting a pink mohawk and shaven sides.

She joins the party for chaos amid Demogorgon dangers, but her presence raises huge questions: Why is she never mentioned in later seasons?

This new canon element turns a familiar timeline gap into risky territory, but creators are sure to fill the gaps.

Fan reactions to Stranger Things: Tales From 85’

Reactions have exploded on Reddit and X.

There is some excitement for the lighter tone of the animation: “I’m looking forward to it. Seems a bit more like low stakes wacky fun, which the show has kind of lost over time. The VA are also pretty similar to the OG ones. Different enough to understand that it’s not the same people, but close enough for it not to be completely jarring.”

Some were very impressed with the voice acting, especially Dustin: “The Dustin voice acting is nuts, like that’s literally Gaten.”

Not everyone’s sold on the fresh character: “Still have no idea why they felt the need to insert an entirely brand new character in the middle of all this. there’s already plenty of characters in the original cast to riff and play off of.”

Nostalgia hit hard for others: “Tbh wasn’t expecting much but wow this trailer gave me back all the feels! one thing I can really commend about the duffers is them choosing the perfect song to elevate trailers and the scenes.”

“Ok, this looks promising, I will give it a watch bc im craving more st content!,” another wrote on Reddit.
