Watch out, Europe! Emily Cooper is not turning in her passport just yet.

The frothy Netflix series Emily in Paris has been renewed for a fifth season, which means the plucky American social media maven is free to do more butchering of the continent’s oldest cultures.

Star Lily Collins announced the news on Good Morning America as she teased what might be ahead for the character now that she has (spoiler alert for season four) decamped from the City of Lights to the Eternal City, aka, from Paris to Rome.

Among the Italian delights in her new home, which she set up at the end of the just released full fourth season, is a new lover, Marcello.

“Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance. We want Emily to be able to smile without condition. We want her to see her beyond her vacay time. And he comes at a perfect time.”

Well, some of us want to see Emily deported back to the land of Costco hotdogs but Emily in Paris is nothing if not divisive.

What seems clear is that despite the change in locale, the show will still be called Emily in Paris and not Emily in Rome.

Creator Darren Star confirmed that while Emily will have a “presence” in Rome, it doesn’t mean she won’t be in Paris.

At least that means the Parisian characters – Sylvie, Luc and Julian – will save the show from its worst impulses.
