Yeeeeaaaaaah, this might be all that we get (for now), but we’ll take it.

The fourth season of Ted Lasso will premiere mid-year, sometime this (Southern Hemisphere) winter, and it will follow the story of a second division women’s football team, which had been teased as a possibility when the show had “ended” almost three years ago.

For the longest time, it was assumed that Ted Lasso would wrap up after its three-season run, and each character arc had a finality to it, especially that of Ted, who returned to the US after taking Richmond F.C. to second in the Premier League tables.

But then whispers of a return started to become louder and louder, and in March, it was confirmed that a fourth season was happening.

Apple TV released five first-look images from the show, confirming that Ted flies back to London to help with the women’s team and their coach, played by Sex Education’s Tanya Reynolds.

In addition to Jason Sudeikis, the other returning cast includes Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca, the 51 per cent owner of Richmond F.C., Juno Temple as PR whizz Keeley, Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent, who was promoted to coach of the men’s team at the end of the third season, Brendan Hunt as the mercurial Beard, and Jeremy Swift, the good-hearted administrator.

Joining Reynolds as newcomers include Faye Marsay, Jude Mack, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern and Grant Feeley.

Sudeikis co-created the series with Hunt, Bill Lawrence and Joe Kelly from a series of 2013 promos he had done for American broadcaster NBC’s sports coverage.

It won 11 Emmy Awards across its first three seasons including outstanding comedy series for its first season.
