The Wanted star Max George has delivered a health update to his concerned fans after undergoing emergency heart surgery.

The British singer, 36, underwent the procedure after he was rushed to hospital when he began feeling unwell.

When doctors discovered he had cardiac issues, he initially told fans he may need a pacemaker.

George was diagnosed with a 2:1 atrioventricular (AV) block in his heart, which results in the organ either beating slowly or skipping beats, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

“Had a little day trip today. Full CT scan on my heart. Not something I’d choose to do again!” he said in his most recent update this week.

“I have a 2:1 block in my heart. Unfortunately my heart rate hasn’t picked up at all in almost a week.”

“Because of this, we don’t have to wait too long so it looks like I’m going to be in surgery way quicker than the doctors first thought.”

Reflecting on the past few days before his update, George said it had been “really rough”.“The last few nights have been really rough, but I wanted to say that I’m absolutely humbled by all your messages of support.

“Both people I know and those I don’t.

“It’s given me a much-needed boost and my family have been overwhelmed with support, which means more to me than anything.”

“It’s gonna be a difficult few weeks/ months ... and Christmas in a hospital bed wasn’t exactly what I had planned!

“But, as always, I’m surrounded with love and support from my wonderful partner Maisie, her family, my family and friends ... and I’m 100 per cent in the best place.

“Although this is a huge shock and no doubt a setback, it’s something I’ll take on with all I’ve got! I count myself very lucky that this was caught when it was.

“Apologies if I bore you with updates in the coming weeks ... I’ve probably got a month in a bed and there’s not THAT much to do!”

George’s band The Wanted formed in 2009 and are known for various hits including Glad You Came.

His bandmate Tom Parker died in March 2022 from stage 4 glioblastoma.

Parker announced his diagnosis in October 2020.

“We are all absolutely devastated but we are gonna fight this all the way,” he said at the time.

“We don’t want your sadness, we just want love and positivity and together we will raise awareness of this terrible disease and look for all available treatment options.

“It’s gonna be a tough battle but with everyone’s love and support we are going to beat this,” he wrote.
