What to expect from the 2025 Met Gala
Colman Domingo always delivers
Actor Colman Domingo has been a highlight of every red carpet he’s graced in recent years, always bringing a chutzpah and imagination to his ensembles. It’s no wonder that he was also tapped to be a co-chair of this year’s gala.
He’s wearing an elaborate gold and blue Valentino cape that not only pops but is also a tribute to Vogue’s late fashion editor Andre Leon Talley who wore a similar shade of cerulean to the Met Gala in 2011.
Domingo said he drew inspirations from many things, including Othello, kings and choirs.
Domingo is on the cover of this month’s issue of Vogue. Asked what it meant to him, he responded, “I’m proud of eight-year-old Colman, who was awkward and skinny, and a nerd, and that he had dreams and believed he could be something else.
“It looks like a manifestation not only of my dreams but many dreams of my family and ancestors. I know I’m standing in a moment that’s for not only myself, for many men, and many women as well, who toiled, who made sure I had what I had.”

Domingo revealed a second outfit beneath the cape, here he is with his husband Raul.

From the race track to the red carpet
Lewis Hamilton is one of the co-chairs of this event and he’s rocked up in a crisp white Wales Bonner suit, complete with a dishy co-ordinated beret.
Hamilton said of his fashion journey, “When I was younger, I really felt like I had to conform, particularly in the world that I compete in. My father and I were the only people of colour there, so there was this real pressure to conform.
“As I got older, I realised that I found my sense of self and got confident from wearing fashion in that you can express yourself from what you’re wearing.
“Fashion really helped me become the person I am today.”

The Met Gala queen reigns
There’s no doubt the most powerful person in the room is Anna Wintour, the grande dame of the Met Gala. She approves everything and everyone, from the theme to the exclusive guest list.
Wintour’s looks are rarely as bold as the celebs, preferring timeless elegance, and this year, she has opted for a Louis Vuitton dress under a longline blue coat. LV is a major sponsor of this year’s event.

What to expect from the 2025 Met Gala
Pharrell Williams has high hopes for the Met Gala, the first to focus exclusively on Black designers, and the first in more than 20 years to have a menswear theme.
The event in New York on Monday (Tuesday AEST) will celebrate the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s new exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”.
“I want it to feel like the most epic night of power, a reflection of Black resiliency in a world that continues to be colonised, by which I mean policies and legislation that are nothing short of that,” Williams recently told Vogue.
“It’s our turn.”
This year, the fundraising gala at the Met is hosted by a group of Black male celebrities, including Williams, the musical artist and Louis Vuitton menswear director, Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, and A$AP Rocky.
NBA superstar LeBron James, who was meant to attend as honorary chair, had to pull out of the night last minute due to an injury.
They’re joined by Vogue editor Anna Wintour, the mastermind behind the gala, considered the year’s biggest and starriest party.
