Neila Bontempelli takes subtle dig at online trolls after polarising Brownlow Medal look
The new mother may have just responded to the scrutiny her dress sparked on Monday night.
Marcus Bontempelli’s wife Neila appears to have taken a subtle swing at online trolls after her Brownlow Medal outfit became the subject of scrutiny on Monday night.
Neila gave birth to the couple’s first born just weeks ago on August 14, a little girl named Daisy, and arrived to the ceremony’s red carpet in a robe-like gown styled by Atalie Studios.
Some social media users took issue with the look, which deviated from a standard ball gown or tight-waisted dress.

Neila also shared vision which appeared to depict her breastfeeding Daisy in their hotel room, which the loose-fitting gown had allowed for.
However, not all footy fans were accepting of her comfort-driven fashion choice.
“Brownlow at 9, karate championships at 10,” one person wrote.
“As comfy as your PJs,” another said, with one comparing the style choice to a “kimono”.
Other users came to her defence, commending the new mother on attending the awards so soon after the feat of child birth.
One said: “5 weeks after giving birth . . . she wouldn’t have slept in 35 days, she would be sleep deprived, her boobs would be so sore (and likely leaking), she would constantly be thinking where’s my phone is my baby ok, yet here she is!!! Well bloody done … this woman is doing incredibly 💫 🙌❤️”.
“I quite like it, a change from all the lingerie,” another wrote.
“She’s just had a kid! She looks beautiful!” one more said.
In a subtle dig at internet trolls, Neila posted a follow-up image to her Instagram story on Tuesday suggesting the universe was looking down on those who felt the need to spread negativity.
She was pictured holding a mug emblazoned with the words: “I saw that. — Karma”.
The mother then shared another image of herself and husband sharing a kiss in the hotel corridor accompanied with a heart emoji, but with their faces scribbled out and her outfit conspicuously pictured.
The star midfielder has been a regular vote-getter at the prestigious awards, finishing runner up in 2021 and 2023, though has never claimed a Brownlow Medal.
He finished Monday’s count in third place with 34 votes, behind Geelong’s Bailey Smith on 36, and Collingwood’s Nick Daicos who won with a record-high 47 votes.
