Food recall: Snackbrands Australia Chickadees in various sizes pulled from Woolworths, Coles and IGA shelves

Consumers are urged to not eat the snack or risk ‘illness or injury’ after foreign matter was found in the product.

A popular snack has been removed from major and independent supermarkets across Australia after rubber was found in the product.

Various sizes of Snackbrands Australia Chickadees have been recalled after Food Standards Australia and New Zealand raised the alarm on Friday.

The snack has been available for sale in-store and online at Woolworths and Coles Australia-wide.

It was also being sold at convenience stores and independent retailers including IGA.

The recall is impacting the product in the following sizes and marked with the best before dates below:

  • Chickadees Multipack 6x19g (114g) - BBD 01Aug26; BBD 08Aug; BBD 12Aug26
  • Chickadees 190g - BBD 15Aug26
  • Chickadees 90g - BBD 12Dec26
  • Chickadees 45g - BBD 12Dec26

Customers who have purchased an affected batch are urged to not eat the product or risk injury caused by ingesting rubber fragments.

“Consumers should not eat this product,” the watchdog said in a statement.

“Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.”

Shoppers are advised to return the snack to the place of purchase in exchange for a refund.

“Consumers should return the product(s) to the place of purchase for a full refund,” the alert continued.

The recall comes a day after the food watchdog ordered a popular cheese be taken off shelves after it was found to be contaminated.

La Vera Group Pty Ltd Cheddar Pepper R/W approx 300g was recalled on Thursday over fears of E. coli contamination.

The product has been available for purchase at independent food retailers including IGA in Victoria and South Australia.

It was also being sold at Foodland in South Australia and Nightscliff Food Store in the Northern Territory.

Customers who purchased the cheese marked with the best before date 15 May 2027 are urged to not eat it or risk becoming unwell.
