After a lengthy career, Merrin retired from the NRL in 2021 and has since become a podcaster and entrepreneur.

Property history
In 2017, professional surfer Sally Fitzgibbons and her then fiancé Merrin became joint owners of their Gerroa home.
The oceanfront reserve cottage was purchased by Sally and her parents Martin and Mary Fitzgibbons in 2010 for $1.225 million, with a majority ownership for Sally.
The parents transferred their share to Merrin.
This followed Merrin selling his former home in Flinders a year prior for $629,000. Cotality records show Merrin had bought the three-bedroom home in 2013 for $510,000.

However, later in 2017, it was revealed that the couple had split, and Cotality records show Fitzgibbons remains the sole owner of the property.
Meanwhile, Merrin purchased a Shellharbour home after his break-up with Fitzgibbons.
Cotality records show the 2010 premiership-winning forward, who also played with Penrith during his NRL career, bought the home in November 2017 for $1.3 million.
The home went on the market in early 2024, and was later withdrawn from sale.
The property was later returned to the market.

The four-bedroom Shellharbour home was once listed with a price guide of $2.3 million. It was later re-listed with a buyer's guide of $1.8 million.
Cotality records show the home was eventually sold for $1.8 million in July 2024.
The home, which spans three levels, sits on 359 square metres. On the lower level, there is space for six vehicles.
