Leading buyer's agent, My Reno Rules judge and View.com.au property expert Simon Cohen has made headlines after selling his luxury Potts Point apartment for a cool $7 million.

The sale was handled by none other than his friend and fellow Luxe Listings star, Gavin Rubinstein, founder of TRG.

Rubinstein, who took over the listing in May, rejected an initial offer of $6.5 million, confident he could secure more for his close mate, and he delivered.

The apartment, located in the renowned Ikon block, was purchased by Cohen in 2021 for $5,125,000. He then undertook a lavish renovation, describing the style as "Parisian with a New York flare."

Despite the extensive reno, he says he's happy with the profit and has already moved on, focusing on his new home, the five-bedroom mansion Brompton in Paddington, for an undisclosed price, industry sources have indicated it's between $12 million and $13 million.

As Simon prepares for a major renovation on his new home, View.com.au Editor Emily Rayner was treated to a tour of his Potts Point home before it's handed over to it's new owners.

From his top real estate tips to his favourite Sydney hotspots, Simon opens the doors for a final look.

26 Questions With View.com.au

Emily Rayner: Well, if it isn't Simon Cohen-view.com.au's brand ambassador and the most famous man in real estate. Can we come in?

Simon Cohen: Come on in.

Emily: Let's start with a classic. Are you a morning, afternoon, or evening kind of guy?

Simon: I would say I'm a morning person.

Emily: This is a pretty impressive closet space. Where did you learn to fold a jumper like that?

Simon: Back in the days when I used to work in retail at a place called Marcs - have you heard of it?

Emily: Of course! Out of all your shirts and jackets, what's your favorite outfit?

Simon: It's like a child; you can't have a favorite.

Emily: What do you think helps you close the best deals?

Simon: I think the negotiation power I was born with.

Emily: What's your favorite thing about working with clients?

Simon: Being able to nail the brief they're looking for.

Emily: Speaking of clients, what's the biggest mistake buyers make when looking for a home?

Simon: They get emotional.

Emily: And what's been the best sale you've ever seen?

Simon: One of the best sales I've ever been part of was an $80 million Spanish Mission-style home in Bellevue Hill.

Emily: Do you remember the first time you worked with a client and got that "aha" moment?

Simon: I wish-I've just worked with so many it's always a bit of an "aha" moment. That's the most beautiful thing-I haven't lost that excitement.

Emily: When was the time you knew you'd really made it as a buyer's agent?

Simon: I don't know if I've even made it yet.

Emily: What's your favourite streaming show right now?

Simon:Luxe Listings Sydney. It's pretty good. If you haven't watched it, I highly recommend it.

Emily: And your favorite app?

Simon: Oh-view.com.au.

Emily: What do you like most about being a View.com.au property expert?

Simon: Getting to work with you guys-it's so much fun.

Emily: What are your top tips for people looking to sell right now?

Simon: For me, presentation is everything. When you're selling your house, you need to make sure that when people walk in, there's not only a "wow" factor, but they can also see themselves living there.

Emily: Let's talk about your home. What's your favorite area?

Simon: This formal lounge. I love the fireplace-for me in winter, it's super cozy. I also love the view of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. And when I have people over, everyone is interactive-it's a great area to hang out.

Emily: You've said before that this place has a "Parisian with a New York flare" style. What was your favourite design component of the renovation?

Simon: My favourite design component was the staircase. The handrail up the staircase is hand-stitched in boat leather and ties in with all the door handles, which are also hand-stitched in boat leather. Even the wood in the arch matches the wood in the floors. It's the little things that make it feel like the whole big thing ties together.

Emily: For buyers, do you think that attention to detail makes a difference when they're looking at a luxury property?

Simon: I think when you're buying luxury property, it's all about attention to detail and quality-and those two things are something I've put a lot of into here.

Emily: You have this incredible kitchen-can you show us through it?

Simon: I can show you the incredible kitchen, which never gets used. Fun fact-whoever buys this house is getting appliances that have never been turned on, opened, and probably still have the manuals inside.

Emily: So... not much of a cook?

Simon: I live in Potts Point in Sydney. Who needs to cook?

Emily: What's your favourite restaurant?

Simon: Probably Mimi's-it's just a vibe and great food.

Emily: And where would you go on a first date?

Simon: Probably around the corner to Dear Sainte Éloise, it's a little wine bar.

Emily: What makes the Potts Point area special to you?

Simon: I think it's the lifestyle. It's the Manhattan of Sydney. You've got bars, restaurants, and shops-you never really need to leave.

Emily: Are there any hidden elements or clever tricks in your kitchen?

Simon: I wish I knew how to use my kitchen, but something pretty cool is that you can have it open or closed. It's like a convertible kitchen. So if you were different to me and actually cooked, these are the things you'd need.

Emily: Fantastic. Thanks so much, Simon Cohen.

Simon: No problem.
