Anthony Albanese pledges $2 million for Christmas food aid for struggling families

A whopping $2 million is being pumped into food and material aid relief across Australia this Christmas to support families in a “financial crisis”, the Labor Government has announced.
The funding comes to particularly support Aussies experiencing high-risk weather and those “doing it tough”.
“No one should be faced with a choice between putting food on the table or paying their bills – especially during the festive season,” Minister for Social Services, Tanya Plibersek, said in a statement.

The Christmas boost for Australians in need means those in remote and regional areas will get more food parcels and food hampers this festive season.
That’s because additional funding will allow providers to boost existing services, including sourcing, transporting, and distributing food and material aid to over 180 Commonwealth-funded emergency relief providers across the country.
Food relief providers include: Foodbank Australia, SecondBite and OzHarvest, and national Material Aid provider: Good360.
This funding builds on the Albanese Government’s 25 per cent boost to food relief and financial wellbeing funding to help Aussies navigate tough times.
