We’re almost at the halfway point of the trade period - and there are plenty of prospective deals that need to be done.

Some of the biggest names who could potentially shift clubs remain in limbo, with Christian Petracca, Zach Merrett, Clayton Oliver, Charlie Curnow, Rowan Marshall all waiting to have their fate determined.

And from a WA point of view - the Eagles may be looking to get a trade done for Richmond’s Tylar Young, as well as considering their options for wantaway Campbell Chesser.

West Coast farewell Chesser

“We are disappointed to lose Campbell after investing four years into his development, but he expressed his desire to return to Victoria and we wish him well,” list manager Matt Clarke said in a club statement.

“Adding another second round draft pick adds to our already strong hand in this year’s draft and provides us with more flexibility and options.”

West Coast currently hold picks 1, 2, 13, 34, 38, 41, 53 and 58.

Carlton speak after Chesser trade

They’ve sent out a press release with list manager Nick Austin, pleased by Campbell’s acquisition.

“The Club is very optimistic about the future of Campbell at Carlton. Overcoming an ankle injury late in the year, the form he displayed at the end of the season showed us he has the quality and class to perform at the elite level,” he said.

“With explosive speed and endurance, his outside run is a clear standout in his game, with the ability to quickly transition to both ends of the ground – all traits that will perfectly complement our side.

“We think he will have a lot to learn from our established midfield group, led by our leaders Patrick Cripps and Sam Walsh, and we look forward to seeing them take Campbell under their wing and he gets to work from day one of pre-season.”

Chesser trade approved

Will Eagles trade pick 1?

“It would have to be something pretty good to give up Pick 1. We are pretty excited to have Picks 1 and 2 and want to take them to the draft at this stage.”

Matty Clarke speaks on Chesser deal

“I think we got the value we were looking for,” he says.

“So far we’re happy with how the trades have worked out.”

Campbell Chesser has reportedly been traded

This deal is done according to Cal Twomey with Pick No.41 heading to the Eagles for the former first-round pick.

It’s a big fall from grace for the injury-plagued wingman but hopefully both parties can start fresh.

Seven’s Mitch Cleary has gone through the details of the three-club trade.

Port Adelaide receives Corey Durdin and Carlton’s future second-rounder.

An update on Jy Simpkin

“There’s been some interest which is no surprise because he’s a very good player,” list manager Brady Rawlings said.

“But there’s been no trade requests or formal offers and while it’s still in that positition he remains a North Melbourne player.”
