Huge comeback!
Round 1 - Dixon
Dixon used his defence well and laid an early jab to the body.
Hossain threw a few combinations but Dixon’s head movement is sharp.
Dixon’s counter-punch timing was very good but he will need to be a touch more aggressive to make sure of scoring the points.
He is clearly the better boxer but it only takes one punch for it all to be over.
Bout 100
Australia’s Jye Dixon has the 100th fight of the Glasgow Games in the Boxing as he takes on 27-year-old Bangladeshi Md Rakib Hossain.
The winner of this bout is garunteed a medal in the semifinal.
Bumped off
James Hardy will have to wait for another medal.
He has been bumped down to fourth in the vault final by Muhammad Aimy of Malaysia.
Cyprian Neofytos Kyriakou sits in second and is on track to claim Cyrus’ first-ever medal in the event.
Big boys
If you are looking for some high-octane action the quarterfinals are underway in the Boxing.
The first men’s contest has just started with the 55kgs first and we move up to 75kg.
Medal chance
James Hardy claimed to bronze medals in the individual gymnastic finals yesterday and currently sits in bronze for the Vault final.
Will his score of 13.566 be enough?
Jack on track
It’s been another very strong morning in the pool for Australia.
Recap the man action below.
Holder holds on
Reece Holder went very hard for the first half of the men’s 400m heat and felt it at the end.
He was overtaken by Jamaican Zandrion Barnes on the final straight but did enough to claim second despite feeling the pinch.
Heptathlon update
Aussie pair Mia Scerri and Tori West are into the Heptathlon high jump and are doing well.
They are both still jumping with the bar into the 170s.
Feel the fear
Peter Bol has spoken post-race.
“I mean, it probably didn’t look like it, but (the heats) are always a stressful part of the championships,” he told Channel 7.
“So I’m glad we ticked that along, but at the same time, it’s scary out there. It’s a privilege.
“(It’s scary because) of self-imposed expectations, you’ve got the country on your back, you’ve got the family on your back, so you just internalise everything.
“It disappears as soon as you get on the track, so it’s nice to finally get here.”
He also said the wet conditions and wind add an extra layer to the racing.
“I mean, I quite like it,” he said.
“It makes it a little bit tactical. The 800 is, unpredictable. So my preparation has been in Melbourne, so I’m quite used to this.
“But it is in the middle of summer, so it’s a little bit hard. It’s going to be cold at night-time for the next two rounds, but we’re prepared for anything.”
Bol’s a gun!
Bol on cruise control!
The West Aussie found himself in some trouble after a casual start, squeezed in mid-pack through the first turn.
However, he moved into the outside and moved up to second on the back straight despite a head wind.
Coming through the last turn the Kenyan tried to push him but the Aussie cruised over the line the first in 1.45.86.
It was a fast run and it looked like Bol wanted a good hit out with two days break to the semifinal.
