KHAWAJA REACHES 200
He steps down to push a single and Jayasuriya misfields to allow him to scramble through for one.
He pumps his fist and lets out a big roar as his teammates get on their feet to applaud.
A magnificent innings to bring up a maiden double ton the first Australian to reach that mark in Sri Lanka.
50 partnership
Khawaja moves to his highest Test score with a lovely drive through the covers four four.
FOUR MORE. Inglis on strike gets a drag down and pulls it to the boundary to bring up the 50 partnership at basically a run a ball.
Khawaja on 197
Inlgis on the attack
BANG. Dances down and launches Jayasuriya over mid-on for four.
FOUR MORE. Comes down to Vandersay next over and hits it straighter for another boundary as he moves to 26.
Khawaja has moved into the 190’s and has been accumulating singles in sweeps and reverse sweeps. His highest Test score is 195* he’s currently on 192.
Inglis prodding and probing
He’s staying well deep in his crease to give himself as much time as possible.
There are a few nervy prods and pokes with Sri Lanka putting men around the bat.
But he’s got himself off-strike with some paddle sweeps and then rocks back to a shorter ball to cut four through gully as he moves himself to 15.
Khawaja continues to reverse sweep and is on 184. AUS 3/422
Inglis off the mark!
First ball in Test cricket and he gets a drag down that is dispatched through mid-wicket for a boundary.
What a way to start your Test career.
Smith is out
After two and a half sessions of cricket, we finally have a wicket.
Smith just plays around a straight one and is struck on the back leg. It’s not given but Sri Lanka finally get a review right.
He falls for a magnificent 141 with debutant Josh Inglis finally getting his chance.
The partnership was 266.
400 up!
It’s in comical fashion as Smith plays well inside the line to one that spins away before Mendis has a shy at the stumps with Khawaja not looking while backing up.
The throw is well wide as they run a bye. Usman would have been out to be fair as that was a bit dozy.
Smith on the attack
He advances and cracks a massive six over mid-wicket.
He looks incredibly comfortable out there while Khawaja has been beaten a couple times in between his sweeps.
Smith whips two to bring up the 250 partnership.
CLOSE! Genuine edge from Smith but it flies just wide of slip to run down for a couple.
AUS 2/388
Over at the MCG
Kim Garth has struck to get the massive wicket of England captain Heather Knight.
She got one to nip in and beat the inside edge to trap her LBW.
She falls for 25 and was looking good but England now in trouble at 3/47
Australia pass 350
Khawaja plays his beloved reverse sweep and juuuuuust clear third man to race to the boundary.
Sri Lankan hands on heads as they can’t seem to buy a trick.
Smith adds insult as he dances down and goes inside out over cover.
