Cricket: Australia’s bowlers bounced back from an embarrassing defeat to Bangladesh in Darwin by knocking over the tourists for 64 at Mackay’s Great Barrier Reef Arena, but their batters produced another misfire.

Amazingly, 18 wickets fell on the first day of the game, with the hosts managing to take a lead of 101 into the close.

Recap all the action here!

Enterprising last-wicket stand

The 10th-wicket partnership has been the best of Bangladesh’s first innings with the bat.

And it has all come in boundaries, of which Shoriful Islam and Taijul Islam have combined to hit four.

BAN 9-55

Bangladesh avoid lowest-ever score

Shoriful Islam carved Pat Cummins through point for four to ensure Bangladesh at least tied their worst-ever Test score of 43.

And Taijul Islam followed up in the same fashion off Josh Hazlewood to ensure they at least avoided that indignity.

BAN 9-47

Unfortunate slice of history looms after ninth wicket

Taskin Ahmed certainly tried to take Australia’s bowlers on during his brief stay at the crease.

But his attempt to hit Pat Cummins out of Great Barrier Reef Arena only went straight up in the air, and the returning Matt Renshaw was all too happy to take the catch.

Bangladesh still need five more runs to beat their worst-ever Test score.

BAN 9-39

Controversy in Mackay!

In an interesting moment at the Great Barrier Reef Arena, Taskin Ahmed has popped a catching opportunity straight up in the air, but then collided with Josh Hazlewood as the ball went to ground.

Pat Cummins went to speak with umpire Nitin Menon, presumably about the possibility of an obstructing the field call, but was turned away.

BAN 8-39

Another one goes!

And now Hasan Mahmud is gone as well!

The ploy to put a leg slip in place and come around the wicket from Josh Hazlewood worked perfectly, with Nathan Lyon in position to take the catch.

Bangladesh are crumbling here.

BAN 8-38

Australia break through again!

It has not taken long for Australia to break through in the second session!

Pat Cummins has accounted for Mehidy Hasan Miraz for 11, with Beau Webster making up for a horrendous drop earlier in the day to pouch a low catch at third slip.

BAN 7-36

We’re back

Josh Hazlewood has taken up the attack for Australia, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Hasan Mahmud trying to survive.

Bangladesh’s backs are well and truly against the wall here.

BAN 6-36

Lunch taken

Mitchell Starc’s second spell of the game may not have brought as many wickets as his first, but he is proving just as threatening.

He is providing the sternest of tests for Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who has fought hard in his 11 not out from 48 balls.

And lunch has now been taken at Mackay’s Great Barrier Reef Arena, with Hasan Mahmud (eight not out) also fighting hard with the tourists in all sorts of trouble.

We will be back in around 40 minutes for the second session.

LUNCH: BAN 6-35

Mahmud moving nicely

Hasan Mahmud watched Mitchell Starc claim the wickets of five of his top-order teammates.

But Bangladesh’s No.8 has produced a straight drive any of them would be proud of to notch his first boundary as he tries to inspire a fightback from a dire situation.

BAN 6-35

No run outs needed

The last thing Bangladesh need this morning is a run out.

And while some hearts might have been in mouths after their last recognised batter Mehidy Hasan Miraz took on Marnus Labuschagne in setting off for a quick single, he managed to get to the other end comfortably with the aid of a dive.
