LUNCH: Australia 7-454
That’s an outrageously dominant session from the home side.
They add a whopping 143 for the loss of only Cummins, with Smith continuing to boss things and reduce India’s chance of winning to dust.
He goes to lunch unbeaten on 139, with Starc on 15.
The question after the break will be how long Australia bat for - but you’d expect 500 would be the minimum before they even think about any sort of declaration.
Here’s Steve Smith talking to Seven:
“It’s been good fun... we’re in a really nice spot. It’s never easy... but the wicket’s probably done less than other wickets, so if you get yourself in you can cash in.”
We’ll be back after the break at 10.10am (WA time)!
Australia 7-448
It’s been a monster session for the Aussies, and Starc adds to it with a towering six down the ground off Bumrah - the fourth maximum conceded by the star bowler this innings.
History maker
Here’s the wrap on Steve Smith’s ton, and where he now sits on the all-time century-makers list. There’s not many names left above him now!
Australia 7-431
Smith’s up to 129 and Starc has been a little more subdued on 3, as we count down toward lunch.
India look a little bereft of ideas, here...
CUMMINS GOES
The partnership finally ends!
Cummins falls one run short of his half-century, charging and skying one wide of mid-off. Reddy comes around to complete a neat catch, Jadeja has the wicket, and the stand ends at 112.
Starc comes in to join Smith and certainly won’t mind the chance to do some big hitting of his own! It’s 7-411.
Australia 6-411
Australia are MOTORING!
India simply have no answers as Smith puts the foot down. He goes six, four off Mohammed Siraj, with the second boundary a bold charge down the track and a pasting through cover.
He’s up to 116 and things are fast getting out of control for the tourists, with just over half an hour until the lunch break.
Foot down
Australia have racked up 23 runs from the past two overs and are now putting India to the sword.
This stand is worth 98... and Cummins has virtually half of them with 47!
SMITH CENTURY!
There it is! Back-to-back Test centuries for the champ!
He’s thundered back into form this series.
Smith gets there with a superb cover drive, and there’s some swagger about this celebration as he nods his head and raises his arms.
He gets a hug from Cummins and a pat on the back from Kohli. What a knock!
He’s now equal seventh all-time on the Test tons list.
Australia are fast closing in on 400 at 6-384.
DRINKS: Australia 6-371
Smith has made his way to 96, with Cummins playing an important role at the other end on 36. He’s peeled off five boundaries of his own!
The Aussies are really pressing home their advantage now, with all eyes on Smith’s pursuit of a 34th Test century.
Australia 6-368
Smith is looking assured in the nervous 90s, despite copping a blow to the hand that appeared to give him a brief moment of pain.
There’s only been five centuries across this series as ball has largely reigned over bat.. is he about to make it six? He’s now 95.
