A dramatic day one in Sydney saw a captain dropped, 11 wickets fall and fiery exchanges what will day two have in store as Australia looks to overcome India’s total on a spicy pitch?
Follow all the action live.
Key Events
Pant goes big
This has been a complete reversal of the approach from India in there first innings.
Pant first ball charges Boland and flat bats him for six over mid-off.
He nearly edges the next ball and then brings up the reverse scoop but misses.
India going at just under five an over with the lead up to 72
Boland gets Kohli again
Forgive me if you’ve seen this before.
Boland goes outside off Kohli fends at it and he edges straight to the second slip where he pouches the catch.
An ignominious end for Kohli but it’s something he’s struggled with all series as he admonishes himself as he departs.
Drinks - IND 2/48
Kohli to the crease in what will be his last ever innings down under and he’s also effectively captain now too.
He’s off the mark with a single with India leading but 52 runs. Things were looking ominous for Australia after Jaiswal’s hot start but if they keep the chase under 200 they’ll be in with a sniff.
ANOTHER ONE
This is a special delivery from Scott Boland!
Angled across but straightening off the pitch to beat Jaiswal’s edge as it flicks the pad and then takes the top of off stump.
There’s life in this contest yet.
BOLAND STRIKES
India were looking increasingly comfortable but it’s Scott Boland again who angles one in and bowls KL Rahul off the inside edge top of leg stump.
The game was quickly going away from Australia but that will keep them interested.
It just nips off the seam to catch the edge with Boland, unlike his counterparts on the money early in his spell yet again.
India motoring along
It’s been a tired looking spell from Starc and Cummins to a lesser extent, they bowled last at the MCG first here with only 51 overs in between.
You do wonder if fresher legs were needed but then again had they’d batted better it may not have been so bad.
Four byes and a pull for four keep India going at more than six an over moving to 0/33 off five overs.
Second innings underway
Starc to bowl the first
Jaiswal leaves first but he gets some width and slashes an uppercut through backward point for four. Statement of intent.
BANG. Width again and he repeats the stroke though this one goes squarer for four more.
FOUR MORE. This one is fuller but still ward and it’s carved along the ground through backward points for for more.
Starc beats the edge.
FOURTH FOUR. Half-volley and Jaiswal crashes a cover drive to the boundary.
16 off the first over all to Jaiswal.
Anything over 150 could be difficult to chase if this pitch doesn’t settle.
Tea
An early tea is called with the fall of that wicket.
At 5-137 and with Jasprit Bumrah off the field Australia would have been eyeing a healthy lead.
However, after Carey was bowled through the gate again the tail collapsed to gift India a four-run lead.
Prasidh bowled an excellent spell while Reddy perhaps showed why it was odd he hasn’t been used more this series.
It’s effectively a one-inning shoot-out but no doubt India are the happier of the too sides.
Bowled - AUSTRALIA ALL OUT 181
Lyon and Boland put on 55 at the MCG.
They nurdle the singles and an edged four brings Australia to within four runs of India’s total.
But Siraj nips one in and bowls Boland to leave India with a slender four run lead.
Australia would have been hoping for a lead when Webster and Smith and then Webster and Carey stuck in but the tail collapsed quickly.
India bowled well and credit must go to Prasidh and Reddy who stepped up in the absence of Bumrah who’s series could be done.
Webster gone!
Prasidh strikes again!
Webster looks to dab one into the off-side but it gets big on him and catches the edge as it flies to gully.
A fine debut knock comes to an end but Australia have now lost 3/3 in the last 2.3 overs.
