Mighty Mathews bows out

After dropping down to 11th, Kurtis Mathews bowed out with one of his better dives of the final, a 68.4 for a forward four-and-a-half somersault effort.

Making the final represents a brilliant result for the 25-year-old, who came out of retirement 14 months before the Games and lost 14kg in the lead-in.

One to go

Still sitting ninth, Kurtis Mathews went with an inward three-and-a-half for his penultimate dive, which the judges assessed to be a worthy of a 56.1.

China’s Xie Siyi and Wang Zongyuan currently own the top two places on the leaderboard.

Tough going

Kurtis Mathews started round four sitting ninth, needing some huge dives to get himself back in the mix for a medal.

Rather than a reverse, he opted for a more comfortable back-facing dive, but a score of 64.8 may mark the end of his chances.

Risky business

Needing to make up ground from eighth, Kurtis Mathews opted to take a risk with his third dive, attempting a reverse with three-and-a-half somersaults.

But he did not nail the difficult maneuver, with the judges scoring the effort at a 52.5.

Big honour for Jess Fox

Jessica Fox, Australia’s double gold medallist in Paris, will give athletes a voice on the International Olympic Committee.

Canoeist Fox is among four Olympians picked on Thursday by their peers to represent athletes at the IOC for the next eight years.

Fox joins the United States’ seven-time gold medallist Allyson Felix, German gymnast Kim Bui and New Zealand tennis player Marcus Daniell as freshly elected athletes.

The quartet were picked from a slate of 32 candidates - more than 6,500 athletes at the Paris Games cast votes.

Solid start

Kurtis Mathews’ first dive was scored at a 65.1, getting on the board with a simple but solid opening effort.

But the competition is looking strong with three divers already notching scores in the 70s.

Kurtis going for gold

Our next hope for gold number 19 will come in the diving, with Kurtis Mathews set to compete in the men’s 3m springboard final.

He is the only Australian in the 12-diver field, with the event kicking off at 9pm.

Sandgroper sailors do us proud

Earlier today, West Australian pair Nia Jerwood and Conor Nicholas finished ninth in the mixed dinghy final.

The pair both grew up in Perth, with Jerwood coming from Wales with her family when she was three years old.

After being delayed by a day due to a lack of wind, a dramatic final saw Austria win gold.
