WA’s Matt Ebden secures a medal
Aussie doubles pairing of Matt Ebden, from WA, and John Peers have secured a medal after beeting American duo Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul in their quarterfinal.
Ebden was dominant in the 7-5, 6-2 win to set up a gold medal match with USA’s Austin Krajicek, Rajeev Ram on Saturday.
BOOMERS DOWN BUT NOT OUT
The Boomers have been handed an agonising defeat in their crunch-time clash with Greece and their Olympic fate is now up to the basketball gods.
A disastrous first half by the former bronze medallists, where they stumbled to a 17-point deficit, proved too much for them to recover, despite a brave second-half fightback.
Mills remains hopeful
Boomers star shooter Patty Mills remains optimistic his side can continue on their quest for a medal despite suffering a shock loss to Greece.
“There’s a lot that we learn about ourselves and hoping that we put it in the bank in the hope we keep moving forward,” he told Channel 9.
“A couple of bad errors I think.
“It was hard today coming out of the gates but the spirit is high – we just need a chance.”
BOOMERS GO DOWN
The Boomers future hangs in the balance after their brave comeback came to an end agianst a resilient Greece.
Despite a brave second half comeback, the Boomers left themselve with too much work to do, too late in the peice.
Giannis Antetokounmpo starred for Greece with a floor-high 20 points.

The Boomers got the margin back to as little as two points, but Greece now hold a four-point lead.
After a lengthy review, Exum headed to the line but only managed to hit one of his two free throws.

AUSSIES TAKE FIRST SET
Men’s doubles pairing Matt Ebden and John Peers have taken the first set in their quarterfinal clash against Americans Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul.
The Americans forced a tie-breaker but WA’s Ebden and Peers held firm to take the opener 7-5.
KOOKAS BEATEN BY THE BUZZER
A fast-finishing Kookaburras ended their group-stage games with a nailbiting 2-3 loss to India.
The Aussies were pushing hard for a late qualiser but were beaten by the final whistle.
THREE QUARTER TIME
The Boomers need to pull a rabbit out of the hat in the last, trailing by 12 points heading into the final stanza.
