Paris Olympics 2024: Opals win bronze as Matt Richardson, Matt Glaezter win in Velodrome
It’s been a historic triumph for Australia so far at these Olympics is there more joy to come as we enter the final day of competition in Paris?
Recap all the action.
Heating up
France started very cold but the home crowd is starting to sing and the shots are starting to drop.
They lead by one and are making plenty of rotations to keep up with the high-octane Americans.
FRA 5, USA 4
Underway
USA will get first possession as the women’s basketball final is underway.
And then there was one
We are down to just one event and gold medal remaining in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
France and the US will give us part two of their ripping basketball rivalry after yesterday’s incredible men’s final.
They are about 10 minutes away from tip-off.
Serbia complete water polo dynasty
Serbia have won their gold medal in a row in the men’s water polo with a 13-10 win over Croatia in the gold medal match.
Our Aussie Sharks registered a shock upset in the pool stage against the Olympic champions.
Wearn’s family celebrate gold
The accomplishments of our athletes is not down to them alone — their support networks play a huge part.
Australian athletes finished
All our Australian athletes in Paris have now wrapped up their Olympic campaigns.
Over 16 days in Paris, we won 18 gold medals, 19 silvers and 16 bronze for a total of 53 medals — our best total away from home soil.
But there is still some action left for tonight, with the men’s water polo gold medal match between Serbia and Croatia about to turn for the final term and the women’s basketball decider between the United States and France about 40 minutes away.
No medal for Baker
Georgia Baker looks to have missed out on a medal for the women’s omnium.
The interim standings have Poland’s Daria Pikulik in second and New Zealand’s Ally Wollaston in third.
Omnium points race halfway done
The women’s omnium points race is more than halfway done.
Georgia Baker remains in the silver medal spot but several riders are pressing up on her.
Our cyclists with their medals
Here are Australian cyclists Matthew Richardson and Matthew Glaetzer with their silver and bronze medals won in the men’s keirin.
And they’re off
The points race of the women’s omnium is underway.
The 80-lap race features a sprint every 10 laps where cyclists are awarded points based on their positions.
Cyclists also receive a huge bonus if they lap the field but are massively penalised if they are lapped.
