Talks with US ‘meaningless’ after Israel attack: Iran
Dialogue with the US over Iran’s nuclear program is “meaningless”, Tehran says, after Israel’s biggest-ever military strike against its longstanding enemy, accusing Washington of supporting the attack.
“The other side (the US) acted in a way that makes dialogue meaningless. You cannot claim to negotiate and at the same time divide work by allowing the Zionist regime (Israel) to target Iran’s territory,” the semi-official Tasnim news agency quoted foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei as saying.
He said Israel “succeeded in influencing” the diplomatic process and Friday’s Israeli attack would not have happened without Washington’s permission.
Dozens injured in strikes on Israel
Israeli paramedics are treating at least 21 people injured in the Iranian bombardment on Israel.
The Magen David Adom emergency service posted a video on social media showing one of its ambulances damaged in the attack, with windows blown out.
Australian TV presenter shares video from bomb shelter
Erin Molan has taken to social media from a bomb shelter in Israel to describe the situation.
“I’m just in a shelter at the moment,” the former Nine and SKy News personality said in a video that is almost completely black.
“Apparently, missiles have hit in Tel Aviv, I can hear the sounds around us.
“We’re just kind of relying on different updates that are coming in, but there were Houthi missiles incoming, but I’m not sure if these are Houthi or if they’re direct from Iran. But yeah, there’s a significant amount of activity happening now in Tel Aviv where we are now. You can hear missiles hitting.”
Aussie Olympian caught up in terrifying attack on Israel
Olympian Nova Peris has been caught up in the missile attacks in Israel, along with 11 other First Nations Australians.
She said the past 24 hours has been “deeply confronting” after spending hours in a bomb shelter.
Ms Peris was in the country with for a reception by the Israel-Australia, New Zealand & Oceania Chamber of Commerce due to take place on Sunday in Tel Aviv.
“The last four to five hours have been extremely frightening and distressing,” she wrote in a post on X.
“We’ve witnessed the unrelenting balistic missile attacks in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and across Israel. There have now been three waves of missiles fired directly from Iran, targeting civilians, destroying homes, and causing widespread devastation.
“We can’t wait to come home. But for now, we’re safe, in bomb shelters, we’re together, and our hearts are with all those living through this terror. Please keep Israel and its citizens in your prayers.”
Canada’s PM backs Israel’s ‘right to defend itself’
Canda’s Prime Minister Mark Carney has backed Israel but called for “maximum restraint” as missiles rain down in Israel and Iran.
He said Iran’s nuclear program had long been a cause for concern and he ahd convened the country’s National Security Council.
“Canada reaffirms Israel’s right to defend itself and to ensure its security. We call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and move towards a diplomatic resolution,” he wrot ein a post on X.
UN chief pleads for an end to military action
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for an end to the military action.
In a post on X, he wrote: “Israeli bombardment of Iranian nuclear sites. Iranian missile strikes in Tel Aviv. Enough escalation. Time to stop. Peace and diplomacy must prevail”.
Woman dies in Israel after Iran strike
An Israeli police spokeswoman has confirmed that one woman was pronounced dead after an Iranian missile barrage struck Ramat Gan, a suburb east of Tel Aviv, the New York Times reports.
The Israeli military said Iran had launched “dozens of missiles” in the past couple of hours. while some were intercepted. Others were not.
It is understood at least one of Iran’s missiles struck close to IDF headquarters.
Search and rescue teams are searching for injured.
Tehran’s international airport hit
Tehran’s Mehrabad airport has reportedly been hit by Israeli missile strikes.
Iranian Revolutionary Guard-run Fars News Agency has confirmed at least two projectiles have hit the area around the airport.
Iran’s Natanz enrichment plant destroyed, UN told
Israel’s strikes on Iran have destroyed a major enrichment plant, the UN Security Council has been told, but the damage at two other sites isn’t fully known.
The above-ground pilot enrichment plant at Iran’s Natanz nuclear site has been destroyed.
“At present, the Iranian authorities are informing us of attacks on two other facilities, namely the Fordow fuel enrichment plant and at Isfahan,” International Atomic Energy Agency’s head Rafael Grossi told the UN Security Council on Friday.
“At this moment we do not have enough information beyond indicating that military activity has been taking place around these facilities as well,” he said.
US joins Israel to combat Iran’s missile attack
Israel has launched fresh strikes against Iran after an overnight bombardment of retaliatory missile strikes across Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
Tehran’s air defence system is active after another wave of missiles from Israel, Iranian news agencies report, while Israel’s military says Iran has launched a new wave of missiles with locals urged to return to shelters.
The Israel Defense Forces said sirens were sounding in the area of Negev “due to the infiltration of hostile aircraft”.
Overnight in Israel air raid sirens sounded as authorities urged the public to take shelter after Iran launched air strikes at Israel, following Israel’s biggest-ever military strike against the pariah state. At least 22 people are believed to have been injured.
